CEDAW is very clear that it is up to each country to determine how best to bring their policies and laws in line with ending discrimination against women.<br /><br />Ratification of CEDAW will help save the lives of women and girls, and strengthens the U.S. in standing up for the rights of women and children around the world. <br /><br />Violence against women and girls is at epidemic proportions, especially during conflict situations. In many countries, girls are denied access to education. In some countries, young girls are forced or sold into marriage. <br /><br />The American public strongly supports the principles and values of education, equality, fairness and basic human rights. Presidents Reagan and Bush have ratified similar agreements on torture, genocide and race.<br /><br />We need to continue America’s proud bipartisan tradition of promoting and protecting human rights and ratify CEDAW.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
