MORT’s Meanderings

Lost Trust.

I pondered over a title for this ‘Meandering’ for an inordinately long time. Then, as a pall of gloom settled over me, I wrote those two words, “Lost Trust”.

‘Lost Trust’ in what? Let me count the ways – certainly not all of them and I haven’t taken time to prioritize this list but, the following issues and entities have caused me to lose trust – and lose trust, big time.

For many years since acquiring my first share in corporate America, I’ve been told over and over again that a stock or bond was, “backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government”. That used to be a comforting thought. Sadly, it no longer is.

I no longer trust the word of this president or that of anyone speaking on behalf of his administration. That goes double for the great majority of the Members of Congress. And it goes triple for the entirety of the Democrat leadership in the current Congress.

I am totally suspect of any statistics or economic figures that emanate from the OMB, the Office of Management and Budget that is a division of the Executive Office of the President. Sorry, but I’ve lost all trust in that incestuous relationship.

I do not trust the results of polls taken by unscrupulous poll takers or survey groups that are nothing more than extensions of the two major political parties. Taking the pulse of voters, special-interest groups or not-so-randomly selected segments of the public, has become such a lucrative commercial endeavor that it has degenerated into an activity that is universally fraught with corruption. Want a poll to reflect certain results? Select the number of people you want polled, hint at the desired results, pay the going fee and ‘oila’: You have facts you can use.

Every Government Department or Agency has its own PIO (Public Information Office) – read that as, ‘propaganda machine’. It doesn’t take a Sherlock Holmes to figure out that the ‘official position as espoused by the official spokesperson’, might be skewed just a tad when it comes to shedding a favorable light on actions, policies and positions.

As much as it pains me to say it, I’ve lost trust in those Generals and Admirals who have risen to the top rung of the Armed Forces ladder and who now report directly to the President and other elected politicians. Some of those men who wear three or four silver stars on their shoulders, have over-imbibed in the intoxicating waters of the Potomac. They’ve abandoned their sworn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States - and have compromised their principles. In other words, their technique for survival to a full-pensioned retirement, is to go along to get along. They have become tools of political policy. They’ve lost my trust.

Then, there is the mass media – newspapers, TV news outlets, talk radio, periodical publications and the endless cable news panel shows. Let me just pose this question: Where are the experts on the economy that have been right, all along? How many times have you sat wide-eyed in wonder at acclaimed ‘experts’ on TV who declare – “It came as a big surprise to me - - “? How ‘expert’ is that?

By now, you must be muttering, “C’mon Mort, you must have faith and trust in something?”

Yes, of course I do. Try this - -

1. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.
2. The rank and file of all branches of the U.S. Military.
3. The American free-enterprise system
4. The proven ingenuity and innovativeness of American entrepreneurs.

In other words, get the tyrannical socialists and control freaks out of the way, reduce Government to its functional minimum, truly secure our borders, clean house of career tit-suckers in the Congress, encourage the Judeo-Christian virtues upon which this nation was founded, elect people to public office who believe in our founding principles - that includes judges at all levels, and re-establish the free-market system that has been the principle by-product of Liberty in this nation for more than 234 years.

Then, stand back and ‘Let’s roll’.
