Listening To Progressives Is Torture

Dear Professor Robert Watson:

I guess you couldn't resist bringing in the Bush Administration when you were describing the horrible conditions at Andersonville prison during the Civil War (S/S June 19, 2011).

How can you equate the "shocking" revelations about the so-called enhanced "torture" at Guantanomo with what went on at Andersonville? The military detention center at Guantanomo is an example of our commitment to being humane to our enemies, and should not be used as a political hammer against your political adversaries (the Republicans and Conservatives). The military prison (detention center) at Guantanomo is the epitome of how a prison should combine punishment (detention) and at the same time being humane. You, supposedly being an objective historian (who heads up a liberal progressive group called, "Think, Act, and Lead"), should not try to compare apples and oranges as you did with Guantanomo and Andersonville.

You never mention that your buddy (Obama) has continued these supposed un-American detention policies, but you always equate them with the Bush Administration. Your bias is blatant and overt, especially troubling for an objective professor of American Studies at Lynn University (or so you claim to be).

As an aside, you liberals (progressives) use the word torture as something that we, as a country, do on a regular basis. To me, torture is cutting off fingers, arms, legs, ears and tongues, putting electrical wires on genitals, lashing people with whips, stoning political opponents etc., etc., as opposed to our enhanced techniques of waterboarding (no one has died or had permanent injuries as a result of this procedure), sleep deprivation and other psychological methods. Granted, these are not pleasant techniques, but do they rise to the level of what should be called torture? I guess if a Republican does it it is torture, but if a Democrat does it it is not torture. The hypocrisy of the left (of which you are an "esteemed" member) is on display almost daily in the biased media. Shame on you and your other fellow travelers.

Goldilox & The Three Bores - Me, Myself and I

Once upon a time - in the far away land of our childhood, children began learning life's lessons at the knee of one of their parents who would make the time to read aloud, one of the beautifully written stories-with-a-moral, from the family copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales.

Fast forward to today's SunSentinel, the waning local periodical that specializes in hand-picked stories of present-day immorality in its news coverage - and the grimmest of fairy tales in its editorials and on its Opinion Page. Stephen Leftist Goldstein's column that appeared in the aforementioned newsrag on Sunday, June 12, 2011 was so very typical of his obstreperous writings that are sadly, unfit for the ears of any of today's children, whatever their age. In this particular edition, he quantum leaped his customary level of tedious drivel with a soaring tribute to himself that I have elected to re-title: "Goldilox & The Three Bores - Me, Myself and I".

I won't bore you dear reader nor frankly, irk myself to an even greater degree, by quoting from his megalomaniacal treatise. Suffice it to say that in all my time trodding this Earth, I've never encountered his like. When it comes to such a unique amalgam of vitriol, hard-left bias, hatred of conservatism, intolerance of opposing viewpoints plus - an out-and-out self-adoration that borders on the obscene, this weird dude has no equal. It boggles the mind as to how much or even why the SunSentinel compensates this pretentious paranoid but, one doesn't need the specifics to arrive at the assessment that whatever the amount, Goldilox is overpaid by a bunch. In response to anticipated rebuttal if there is any, please understand that there is no envy on the part of this writer, just a boatload of incredulity.

Hypocrisy, unrestrained lunacy, delusional Democrat clap-trap and mind-blowing over-boring pomposity simply ooze from between the keys as Goldilox - the infallible, conjures up his tiresome tirades.

If he were no longer to appear in the SunniSentinel, would he be missed? I for one, am willing to suffer the potential consequences of such a reverie becoming a reality.

In Defense of 'Hurtful' Speech
I was tried for a thought crime despite being an elected politician and the leader of the third-largest party in the Dutch parliament. Yesterday was a beautiful day for freedom of speech in the Netherlands. An Amsterdam court acquitted me of all charges of hate speech after a legal ordeal that lasted almost two years.

The Dutch people learned that political debate has not been stifled in their country. They learned they are still allowed to speak critically about Islam, and that resistance against Islamization is not a crime. I was brought to trial despite being an elected politician and the leader of the third-largest party in the Dutch parliament. I was not prosecuted for anything I did, but for what I said.

My view on Islam is that it is not so much a religion as a totalitarian political ideology with religious elements. While there are many moderate Muslims, Islam's political ideology is radical and has global ambitions. I expressed these views in newspaper interviews, op-ed articles, and in my 2008 documentary, "Fitna."

I was dragged to court by leftist and Islamic organizations that were bent not only on silencing me but on stifling public debate. My accusers claimed that I deliberately "insulted" and "incited discrimination and hatred" against Muslims. The Dutch penal code states in its articles 137c and 137d that anyone who either "publicly, verbally or in writing or image, deliberately expresses himself in any way that incites hatred against a group of people" or "in any way that insults a group of people because of their race, their religion or belief, their hetero- or homosexual inclination or their physical, psychological or mental handicap, will be punished."

I was dragged to court for statements that I made as a politician and which were meant to stimulate public debate in a country where public debate has stagnated for decades. Dutch political parties see themselves as guardians of a sterile status quo. I want our problems to be discussed. I believe that politicians have a public trust to further debates about important issues. I firmly believe that every public debate holds the prospect of enlightenment.

My views represent those of a growing number of Dutch voters, who have flocked to the Party for Freedom, or PVV. The PVV is the fastest-growing party in the country, expanding from one seat in the 150-seat House of Representatives in 2004, to nine seats in 2006 and 24 seats in 2010. My party's views, however, are so uncommon in the Netherlands that they are considered blasphemous by powerful elites who fear and resent discussion.

That's why I was taken to court, even though the public prosecutor saw no reason to prosecute me. "Freedom of expression fulfills an essential role in public debate in a democratic society," the prosecutors repeatedly said during my trial. "That comments are hurtful and offensive for a large number of Muslims does not mean that they are punishable."

The Netherlands is one of the few countries in the world where a court can force the public prosecutor to prosecute someone. In January 2009, three judges of the Amsterdam Appeals Court ordered my prosecution in a politically motivated verdict that focused on the content of the case. They implied that I was guilty. The case was subsequently referred to the Amsterdam Court of First Instance.

The judges who acquitted me yesterday already had a peremptory ruling from the appeals court on their desk. They decided, however, to follow the arguments of the public prosecutor, who during the trial had once again reiterated his position and had asked for a full acquittal.

Though I am obviously relieved by yesterday's decision, my thoughts go to people such as Danish journalist Lars Hedegaard, Austrian human rights activist Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff and others who have recently been convicted for criticizing Islam. They have not been as fortunate. In far too many Western countries, it is still impossible to have a debate about the nature of Islam.

The biggest threat to our democracies is not political debate, nor is it public dissent. As the American judge Learned Hand once said in a speech: "That community is already in the process of dissolution . . . where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists to win or lose." It has been a tenet in European and American thinking that men are only free when they respect each other's freedom. If the courts can no longer guarantee this, then surely a community is in the process of dissolution.
Legislation such as articles 137c and 137d of the Dutch Penal Code disgraces our democratic free societies. On the basis of such legislation, I was prevented from representing my million-and-a-half voters in parliament because I had to be in the courtroom for several days, sometimes up to three days per week, during the past year and a half. Such legislation should be abolished. It should be abolished in all Western countries where it exists-and replaced by First Amendment clauses.

Citizens should never allow themselves to be silenced. I have spoken, I speak and I shall continue to speak.

Accident” or Jihad?: Egyptian Pilot’s Near Miss @ JFK Airport

Hmmm . . . an EgyptAir pilot takes a wrong turn “by accident” and nearly causes a collision with a Lufthansa plane speeding down the runway and about to take off from New York’s JFK airport. “Accident” or deliberate jihad? It wouldn’t exactly be the first time an Egyptian pilot deliberately engaged in jihad and purposefully murdered passengers. And pilots just don’t make boneheaded moves like the one this Muslim pilot made on Monday. Listen to the audio of the pilots, below. Do you really think this Egyptian pilot is such a moron . . . or cold and calculating? I vote the latter.

EgyptAir or JihadAir?: Making the Skies–AND the Runways–Not So Friendly
In November 1999, co-pilot Gamil Al-Batouti deliberately crashed his EgyptAir plane into the ocean, off the coast of Massachusetts, killing more than 200 passengers, after being recorded saying Muslim prayers to Allah. He waited until the captain of the flight left the cabin and disconnected auto-pilot. Although “experts” said it was a suicide, he could have easily committed suicide on his own, rather than take a plane down carrying a number of Americans. It was clearly an act of Islamic terrorism. And there have been a number of other mysterious and suspicious EgyptAir crashes in recent years.

But, no worries, the EgyptAir pilot from the Monday incident took off 90 minutes later, and the pilot is safely away from American reach. Thanks, federal agents, for letting this pilot leave the U.S. without any investigation whatsoever. Only in America. I guarantee you that if an American pilot did this in Egypt, he’d long since have been tortured to death.

A packed Lufthansa jet narrowly avoided a deadly collision with an EgyptAir flight that had taxied into its path at Kennedy Airport, terrifying air traffic control tapes revealed.

“Cancel takeoff! Cancel takeoff plans!” shouted a rattled air traffic controller as the massive Lufthansa Airbus A340 steamrolled toward the EgyptAir Boeing 777 just before 7 p.m. Monday.

“Lufthansa 411 heavy is rejecting takeoff,” the pilot acknowledged as the plane screeched to a halt just moments before the potential disaster.
“All traffic is stopped right now,” the controller informed all planes, according to recordings posted on LiveATC.net.

The narrowly averted disaster came as the Cairo-bound Egyptian airliner had apparently mistakenly turned the wrong way onto Runway 22R.
The error occurred just as the Munich-bound Lufthansa flight was approaching full lift-off speed of 180 mph less than a mile away.

Stunned pilots who witnessed the near tragedy as they circled the airport let out sighs of relief that no one was killed.
“Those two were coming together,” radioed one unidentified pilot.
“That was quite a show. I thought it was going to be a short career,” a Virgin America pilot arriving from Los Angeles radioed in moments later.

If the two planes had collided, it could easily have turned into a catastrophic calamity – the Lufthansa plane was carrying 286 passengers and the EgyptAir flight can carry up to 346.

After screeching to a halt, the Lufthansa flight crew requested maintenance crews come and check their overheated brakes.
“Maybe we have hot brakes right now. Maybe we take a minute,” a flight crew member radioed to the tower.

The flight took off safely about 40 minutes later. The EgyptAir took off 90 minutes later.

It seems very suspicious and hardly an “accident.” And letting this pilot leave the U.S. just an hour and a half later? Truly boneheaded.

Do you think that if an Israeli or British or French pilot nearly murdered hundreds of Americans at an Airport just miles from Ground Zero, the pilot would be gone from America 90 minutes later without any attempt to detain him?

Dream on. But, hey, we gotta be extra-super-nice to the Muslim pilot, ‘cuz–ya know–maybe it will make ‘em like us better.

Education Liberal Columbia Professor Keeps Job Despite Pleading Guilty to Incest Charge

Last December Columbia University Professor David Epstein was in the headlines. Not for his blog posts at the Huffington Post on issues ranging from torture to Sarah Palin, but rather for his arrest and charge of having participated in a three year sexual relationship with his 24-year-old daughter. The Columbia Spectator’s Jackie Carrero and Mikey Zhong have reported that despite pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge for attempted incest on May 10, Mr. Epstein will remain a Professor at the $40,000+ yearly tuition Ivy League university.

Mr. Epstein taught at Columbia University along with his wife, a political science professor, and the two were featured in a 2008 Spectator article on professors who “bring love to work.” Manhattan District Attorney’s office criminal complaint in December read that “professor David Epstein’s incest was committed between July 2006 and June 2009 at University Apartment Housing building on 120th Street,” and the New York Daily News reported that the relationship featured “twisted text messages.”
