Saul David Alinsky (January 30, 1909 – June 12, 1972) was an American community organizer and writer. He is generally considered to be the founder of modern community organizing. He is often noted for his book Rules for Radicals. From that book here are Saul's thoughts on how to create a social state:

There are 8 levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a social state. The first is the most important.

1) Healthcare – Control healthcare and you control the people

2) Poverty – Increase the Poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.

3) Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.

4) Gun Control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government. That way you are able to create a police state.

5) Welfare – Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income)

6) Education – Take control of what people read and listen to – take control of what children learn in school.

7) Religion – Remove the belief in the God from the Government and schools.

8) Class Warfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to take (Tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

When President Obama signed the so-called Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) into law, he said this sweeping government takeover of America’s medical system was the result of “historic leadership” and that it was a testament to the “persistence of the American people.”

He was right about one thing: It has certainly been historic. Now, it’s about to be a historic train wreck of epic proportions!

The Obama administration is forging ahead with the implementation of this disastrous law. It took legislative manipulation, backroom deals, phony promises, and extreme coercion of Congress by White House arm-twisters to pass ObamaCare.

As if this wasn’t bad enough, the original law passed by Congress contained only the framework for ObamaCare. The “mandates” and “Health and Human Services Guidelines” that are emerging were still unwritten at the time of the bill’s passage.

We are now finding out, as former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi famously suggested, what’s actually in the law – more than 700 new directives so far without any congressional oversight or accountability.


++As 2012 came to an end, the U.S. Supreme Court breathed new life into our lawsuit against ObamaCare.

Liberty Counsel filed the first private suit in the nation against ObamaCare on March 23, 2010, Liberty University v. Geithner. Many lost hope in late June of 2012 when the Supreme Court announced it was upholding the “individual mandate” at the heart of ObamaCare.

But then our ObamaCare lawsuit was prominently featured by major media sources when, on Nov. 26, 2012, the High Court signaled that a majority of Justices were interested in revisiting the constitutional issues we raised.

I will reargue the case at the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on May 16, and then we may well be back before the High Court later this year.

Liberty Counsel represents Liberty University and two private individuals in this case. Our case is the most comprehensive and significant challenge to ObamaCare in the country!


Liberty Counsel is challenging (1) the employer mandate; (2) the abortion mandate for religious employers; (3) the abortion mandate for individuals; and (4) the entire law, because tax bills must originate in the House and Harry Reid launched ObamaCare in the Senate.

Under the cloak of various legal and legislative measures – including seemingly sensible processes like “universal background checks” – our Second Amendment rights are under fire today as never before.

For instance, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has recently announced his plan to push forward a gun control bill that would expand background checks and enact tougher penalties for gun trafficking.  

On the surface, both new measures appear to be fairly benign.  

But the expanded background checks place the government squarely in the middle of every gun purchase, including private transactions.

Under Reid’s proposed new system, private sellers and buyers would be required to meet in person with a licensed dealer. There, the dealer would check the buyer against the federal database.

As with dealer purchases, a record of the sale would be retained by the licensed dealer and the dealer would charge a fee for the recording service.

Opponents of the bill believe it will ultimately result in the universal registration of all firearms and gun owners. At a minimum, it will lead to expanded monitoring by the ATF which will place citizens at an increased risk of searches and seizures.  

There is no way to get around the fact that this “benign” bill in the Senate is a wolf in sheep’s clothing!

Majority Leader Reid has suffered intense criticism from the Left for refusing to move Senator Dianne Feinstein’s proposed “Assault Weapons Ban” (focused on the AR-15 rifle) to the Senate floor, citing a lack of votes for passage.  But an infuriated Feinstein has vowed to renew the fight.

This situation makes Reid’s bill all the more dangerous as he attempts to regain face with his leftist critics for embarrassing (some would say betraying) Senator Feinstein on her pet subject of gun control.

++Those who support the constitutional right to bear arms face well-funded adversaries!

As you probably know, billionaire New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has launched a $12 million media assault in 13 key states through his organization, “Mayors Against Illegal Guns.”

Bloomberg’s selected states are those in which the organization believes it “can most influence the upcoming Senate vote” by targeting vulnerable Senators.

Bloomberg, known for initiating other “Big Brother” type of laws in New York City, believes his group’s influence will ultimately drive the passage of the Senate bill.

++Meanwhile, actor Jim Carrey takes a cheap shot at gun owners. 

In a just-released video, actor Jim Carrey, on a “Hee-Haw” type of backdrop, mockingly impersonates the late Hollywood icon and former President of the National Rifle Association, Charlton Heston.

In a parody song entitled “Cold Dead Hand,” Carrey sings…

“The angels wouldn't take him up to heaven like he planned because they couldn't pry that gun from his cold dead hand.”

As we have seen in other cultural battles, liberal Hollywood is all too eager to move radical leftist ideas with their formidable influence.  The combination of Carrey/Bloomberg/Reid is a good example of a small number of liberal “progressives” working to subvert the liberties the Bill of Rights affords to every American citizen.

++The NRA is exposing Harry Reid’s ploy.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) says Reid’s proposed bill will bring more government expansion and intrusion, and is “a step toward national gun registration” by the federal government that would take away the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

NRA President Wayne LaPierre sounded the alarm on this week’s Meet The Press, saying that these new regulations will not stop criminals…

“The whole thing, universal checks, has a dishonest premise. Criminals aren't going to be checked. They're not going to do this. The shooters in Tucson, in Aurora, in Newtown, they're not going to be checked.”

Patriots, this proposed gun legislation is nothing short of a power grab as we have seen Harry Reid do in so many other instances.  Reid can be counted upon to forward the Left’s desire to fundamentally transform our nation and diminish our individual liberties.

The ObamaCare Fiscal Cliff and obamatax

While Congress and our nation’s news cycles are obsessed with the so-called “fiscal cliff” and the proposed tax hikes on the “rich,” some of the most devastating hits to the wallets of Americans in 2013 are sliding in under the radar: The stealth costs of ObamaCare.

Contrary to the oh-so-earnest promises made by President Obama when he was selling ObamaCare to the nation, the new healthcare law is driving up costs for every American.

Here are just a few of the troubling signs we are seeing…

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Blue Shield of California is looking to increase their rates 13-20% next year.

The Kaiser health plan wants to raise rates 9%.

Bloomberg News is reporting…

“Health insurance premiums may as much as double for some small businesses and individual buyers in the U.S. when the Affordable Care Act’s major provisions start in 2014, Aetna Inc. (AET)’s chief executive officer said.

“We’ve shared it all with the people in Washington and I think it’s a big concern,” the CEO said.

Aetna is our nation’s third largest health insurance company.

Michael Turner wrote on National Review Online that a majority of ObamaCare’s $1 trillion new or increased taxes will take effect in 2013, including…

“An increase in Medicare payroll taxes; cuts in Flexible Spending Accounts; new business taxes; medical device taxes and…Middle-class workers will also be among the biggest losers from the changes that Obamacare imposes on tax-deductible medical expenses – amounting to a $500 tax hike.”

Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC) has a list of 20 new or higher taxes being imposed on American families and businesses on his congressional website.

And, as the icing on the cake, Michael Turner reports…

“ObamaCare will add roughly $1.5 trillion to the debt over the next ten years.”

These are at least 20 more reasons why ObamaCare must be defeated in court!

As you may know, Liberty Counsel’s lawsuit against ObamaCare was revived by the Supreme Court late last month.

The Outright Deception of ObamaCare

Another day, another mandate!!!!!

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has just announced that any and all FDA approved “contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and patient education and counseling for women with reproductive capacity,” will be provided under ObamaCare “without cost” in college/student-based health plans, and for women of college age but not attending school.

But, of course, SOMEBODY will be paying for all those “sterilization procedures” and abortion inducing drugs for college aged women – enrollees in ObamaCare, whether it offends their consciences or not! This HHS announcement comes on the heels of a similarly disturbing revelation that a minimum of one dollar a month from every ObamaCare participant will help pay for someone’s abortion. Just when Americans desperately want to believe that we’ve heard the end of ObamaCare’s immoral and unconstitutional mandates, Barak Obama and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius have launched yet another assault against pro-life Americans and unborn children– and our First Amendment freedom of conscience!

These mandates are only the beginning of what is coming under ObamaCare.

Now, it’s all in the “HHS rules.”

Liberty Counsel warned that ObamaCare authorizes unaccountable bureaucrats, like Sebelius, to create rules for its implementation and thereby bypass the legislature.

From the beginning, we argued that ObamaCare was the largest abortion funding in history, and we pointed out that ObamaCare would mandate for the first time in history direct funding of abortion by the $1 abortion fee (in addition, of course, to many other abortion mandates). Now, what we argued when we filed suit in 2010 has come to light.

Not only do the HHS rules require health insurance providers to provide abortion-inducing drugs like Ella and Plan B free of charge, as you’ve heard in the news, but the provision setting a premium to cover abortion is also in the HHS rules that implement ObamaCare.

Conservative Group Says It’s Time for Governor to Take “Principled Stand” Against Government Health Care Takeover

BOGOTA, NJ – Americans for Prosperity, the state’s leading free-market, grassroots organization, is calling on Gov. Chris Christie to veto legislation that would establish Obamacare’s so-called health care exchanges in the state.

The legislation aimed at complying with the unconstitutional federal health care takeover, the “New Jersey Health Benefit Exchange Act”, passed the state Legislature in mid-March and awaits action by the governor within the next several weeks well before the much-anticipated Supreme Court decision expected by the end of June.

Mike Proto, communications director for Americans for Prosperity’s New Jersey chapter said, “Our organization respects much of the work the governor has done to try to turn New Jersey around and has stood with him on numerous issues, but on the issue of the government takeover of our health care he has disappointed.”

“The governor’s administration has already accepted federal funds for the exchange and for Obamacare’s high risk pools. The administration also failed to join the multi-state constitutional legal challenge now pending before the Supreme Court,” continued Proto. “The time has come for the governor to take a principled stand against Obamacare and to protect the rights of every New Jersey citizen to make their own health care choices.”

“Furthermore, the governor has an obligation to protect our state’s sovereignty against this federal power grab. The state’s created the federal government, not the other way around. When the federal government exceeds its enumerated powers and infringes on state’s rights, the governor has an obligation to say ‘no’,” added Proto.

“The governor needs to act. By law, this cannot wait until the Supreme Court hands down its decision two months from now. The governor must veto this bill now and let the people of New Jersey know once and for all where he stands on Obamacare.”

As part of Americans for Prosperity’s effort, the group is urging its more than 64,000 citizen activists across the state to sign onto a petition letter to the governor urging him to veto the bill.

World Mourns As Communist Darkness Falls Upon America

In what is being described as one of the most astounding power grabs in modern history by newspaper headlines around the World, President Obama has succeeded in his audacious plan to remake America into a full fledged godless communist empire barely one year into his term with the enactment into law by the US Congress of his mammoth health care plan innocuously named H.R. 3200-Americas Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 and described by one Kremlin legal expert as having “nothing at all to do with health, but everything to do with control.”

To fully grasp the full and grim implications of Obama’s power grab over the American people with his Nationalization of the United States entire health care industry and student loan programme accomplished with the passing of this new law, it must be remembered that since taking office on January 20, 2009 he has also taken over their automobile, mortgage, and banking industries too with the Internet said being next “in his sights”.

More insidious than these takeovers that have been destroying America’s once vibrant capitalistic system is the new regime these once free peoples are now destined to live under, and where under their new health care law will require all of them to carry a National ID card (page 58) and allow their government unlimited access to all of their bank accounts and personal records (page 159).

And in a chilling instance of the ancient prophecies for these time of “The Mark of the Beast” becoming reality, the National ID card all of the American people will now be required to possess (regardless of age) is to be combined with their new government ID card under their upcoming new immigration laws allowing them to work and is biometrically designed to “read” the backs of their hands.

Though many have tried to warn these Americans about the plans for their Nations destruction at the hands of the Obama backed communist forces who have taken over their country [including our March 2nd report "Russia Warns US Communist Threat Endangering Entire World"] the propaganda organs in the United States have rendered silent nearly all opposition and dissident views from reaching them and they remain asleep to the true dangers soon to come upon them.

The same, however, cannot be said about the rest of the World where during this past week alone, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon signed a cooperation agreement with a Russia-led security group of ex-Soviet Nations as a counterbalance to the US led NATO forces (who are currently expanding their wars against the Muslim Nations to steal their vast oil and gas wealth) and one of China’s top military officers called for his Nation to build the World’s strongest military and move swiftly to topple the United States as the Global “champion.”

To how ignorant the American people have become to the yoke of communist oppression being pressed upon them by Obama’s forces we can glimpse from a report in today’s Los Angeles Times that says “The Democratic administration of Barack Obama, who denounced his predecessor, George W. Bush, as the most secretive in history, is now denying more Freedom of Information Act requests than the Republican did.”
And as to why Obama and his communist forces would seek to keep from the American people what is really being done to them we had, also, previously warned about in our February 12th report “The “End Of Days” Are Upon Us, Warns Russian Patriarch” and wherein we had stated:

“Patriarch Cyril warns in his report though that the Motherlands efforts to halt the West’s godlessness “may be too late” as evidenced by the rising use among their political, military, banking and celebrity elite classes of the ancient Babylonian “Sign of the Horns” [formed by extending the index and little fingers while holding the middle and ring fingers down with the thumb, see photo bottom left] honoring the ancient god Marduk (Sumerian spelling in Akkadian: AMAR.UTU meaning “solar calf”).”

Now most important to remember about these ancient enemies of our human race Obama and his communist forces have aligned themselves with is how truly predictable they are; including the United States passing of their health care bill during the 2010 Vernal (Spring) Solstice [when daytime and nighttime are equal length] as a”celebration” to the ancient goddess ?ostre whose name was given to the Christian festival of Easter but whose origins stretch back into the mists of time to the mystery religions of Rome where the Cybele cult preformed their child sacrifices on what was then known as Vatican hill, but today is known as the home of the Pope.

And in these monsters predictability by aligning themselves with the ancient dates and ceremonies of old also comes the most secure protection from their destructive plans; such as the United States March 4, 2001 airing of the Lone Gunman television programmes pilot episode where an American government plot to fly remotely controlled planes into the World Trade Center was discovered, and which was exactly 6 months and 7 days from when the actual attack occurred.

It’s now official. Contained in just-released Health and Human Services guidelines is yet another mandate that requires an “abortion premium” for the establishment of state health care exchanges.

According to our friends at LifeNews...

“To comply with the accounting requirement, plans will collect a $1 abortion surcharge from each premium payer… The enrollee will make two payments, $1 per month for abortion and another payment for the rest of the services covered.

As described in the rule, the surcharge can only be disclosed to the enrollee at the time of enrollment. Furthermore, insurance plans may only advertise the total cost of the premiums without disclosing that enrollees will be charged a $1 per month fee to directly subsidize abortions.”

Here’s the bottom line: All Americans were lied to by our President, who promised that ObamaCare would not enhance abortion services, nor would taxpayer money be used to fund these murderous procedures!

And you will certainly remember the President’s oh-so-sincere promise that “If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it.”
It turns out that, too, was a convenient “misrepresentation.”

++CBO Report: ObamaCare cost estimates have doubled!

Yesterday the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its most recent projections revealing that ObamaCare’s costs will be nearly double what the President promised and Congress approved – from $900 Billion to $1.76 Trillion. But independent analysts say the true cost will, in all likelihood, far exceed $2 Trillion over that ten-year span.


We have been saying all along that the Obama administration used accounting trickery to insure that his healthcare package came in under $1 Trillion. Now that, too, has been CONFIRMED.

Far fewer people will be able to obtain employer plans – or keep their existing plans – than was falsely promised.

Further, the CBO report disclosed the likelihood that four million people – more than four times the original estimate – will be unable to have access to healthcare services through their employers.

I was taken aback when President Barak Obama, the leader who habitually shuns National Day of Prayer observances, called for a “prayer vigil” to rally public support for his cornerstone legislation this week.


As I said at the time, I applaud the President’s desire to submit ObamaCare to the Lord, but I think he may be very surprised at His response!

I am requesting that ALL friends of Liberty Counsel rise up in an unprecedented wave of unity – and PRAY – not to sway public opinion – but, as Joel 1:14 declares, to “Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.”

Beginning March 26th, the United States Supreme Court will hear three days of oral argument on the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Law” cases. Their deliberations will include many of the key components of Liberty Counsel’s lawsuit against ObamaCare.

In early May 2011, as I entered the courtroom of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals facing the Department of Justice in our case “Liberty University v. Geithner,” I was carrying our Amici Book. If you will remember, the book was filled with over 76,000 names of people who had committed to pray for us that day and throughout this process.


As I’ve shared with you before, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond ruled that the individual mandate is a “tax” under the Anti-Injunction Act (AIA), and thus the court does not have jurisdiction to rule on the merits until the “tax” is paid and a “refund” is sought by a taxpayer.

Thus, according to the appeal court’s logic, the case could not even be brought to the federal courts until the mandate becomes effective in 2014.

This ruling went against every court in America that considered ObamaCare! Every other court found that the mandate is a “penalty,” not a tax, and that the AIA does not apply.

There was never any doubt that the Supreme Court would be the final arbiter of the constitutionality of ObamaCare. Now, as I look back over these events, I CLEARLY see God’s providential Hand guiding the process and answering our prayers! And I expect nothing less than His blessing as the Supreme Court considers ObamaCare’s final disposition.

I know that God’s people were praying that day last May and throughout this long, drawn-out process. Further, I believe the Lord has uniquely prepared Liberty Counsel for this season in our nation’s history. I believe that God is bigger than all of this – and that our Fourth Circuit ruling and the DOJ’s appeal certainly didn’t take Him by surprise!

The Lord has continually honored our work and the prayers of His people. The evidence of that is quite clear!

Yesterday, I looked out at the thousands upon thousands of faces and the sea of “Hands Off My Health Care” and “I Am AFP” signs, and I knew our movement was stronger than ever!

Yesterday, your voices, the voices of the American people, were heard over the pundits and politicians from both sides of the aisle. According to one speaker, our voices “rattled the windows of the Supreme Court.” Together, we sent a crystal clear message to the Supreme Court: do the right thing...overturn this disastrous, unconstitutional government takeover of our health care.

From our event, a CNN correspondent reported to Wolf Blitzer, “I want to give you a sense of what the crowd looks like here; it goes on and on and on!”

Over 4,000 activists joined Americans for Prosperity and our 20+ coalition groups for the incredible Hands Off My Health Care Rally across the street from the U.S. Supreme Court. We heard from great speakers like Sen. Rand Paul, Sen. Jim DeMint, Sen. Ron Johnson, Sen. Pat Toomey, Rep. Michele Bachmann, Rep. Paul Ryan, Rep. Alan West. We heard from breast cancer survivor, Tracy Walsh, who told her personal story of survival due in part to choices and access provided by our health care system. We heard from Canadian, Shona Holmes, who told how she faced waiting lists and denied treatments for her brain tumor in her home country thanks to their socialized health care system but thankfully she drove south to the United States for the treatments that saved her life.

This fight is far from over, but our fellow Americans are with us. Every poll shows they want to see the health care takeover law repealed. But we've got to keep taking our message of freedom to the American people.

IS BIRTH CONTAGIOUS?

I never realized pregnancy is a disease.
It must be, according to the President.
Apparently contraception is the preventative method and
the day after pill is a treatment, while abortion is the cure,
putting it in his perspective.

If I am assumed to be wrong, how come this new plan comes under
health insurance? I thought health insurance is supposed to defray
medical treatment when you are seriously ill.

The President assures us his plan will not cost the taxpayer a
anything. He said he will make the insurance companies absorb the
cost and distribute the above services for free. Really?
When the bottom line of any company suffers, the cost of
doing business with them comes with an increase in prices.

That's a fact!

President Obama has many different hidden taxes....'a rose by
any other name is still a rose.'
Speaking about money, the word 'free' should be struck out of
any monetary reference, because nothing is ever free! There
is always somebody who has to pay.

This administration has given the poor a distorted sense of
values, based on wealth distribution and entitlement.
Also, based on the damage President Obama is creating in the
community of religion, he lends credence to suspicions of him being
a pseudo Christian with radical Islamic leaning because, Christians
and other legitimate religions deem life sacred, where as radical
Islam does not. Neither does he or his proposals.

Not only is he antagonizing Christian tenets, he is instigating class conflict,
hoping it will gain him four more years, to finish the changes and destruction
of the America our founders envisioned, and the hope and dreams it fulfilled
for our legally immigrated ancestors.

I still hear politically correct people speak about how Sherrod was railroaded. Ya, her and her Black Liberation theology preaching Hubby are so sweet. The Other Side of Shirley Sherrod

Imagine farm workers doing back breaking labor in the sweltering sun, sprayed with pesticides and paid less than minimum wage. Imagine the United Farm Workers called in to defend these laborers against such exploitation by management. Now imagine that the farm workers are black children and adults and that the managers are Shirley Sherrod, her husband Rev. Charles Sherrod, and a host of others. But it’s no illusion; this is fact.

The swirling controversy over the racist dismissal of Shirley Sherrod from her USDA post has obscured her profoundly oppositional behavior toward black agricultural workers in the 1970s. What most of Mrs. Sherrod’s supporters are not aware of is the elitist and anti-black-labor role that she and fellow managers of New Communities Inc. (NCI) played. These individuals under-paid, mistreated and fired black laborers–many of them less than 16 years of age–in the same fields of southwest Georgia where their ancestors suffered under chattel slavery.

When I first noticed the story of her firing and the association of Shirley Sherrod’s name with the rural black poor and concern for “black land-loss”, I wondered if the person being praised was the same Shirley Sherrod whom I knew. One piece posted on the July 23rd Alternet and captioned “Shirley Sherrod and the black Land Struggle” even claimed that she “devoted her entire life to economic justice”. The mistreatment of black workers at NCI under the Sherrods is a matter of record that contradicts this claim.

If confession is good for the soul, then Mrs. Sherrod took a first step toward her redemption by admitting the error of her ways in her earlier attitudes toward poor white farmers. Mrs. Sherrod says she began to see poverty as more central than race. So, should indigent black child farm laborers warrant less reflection by Mrs. Sherrod? What lessons does she have to share from her tenure as management when she had power over her own people working under deplorable conditions at the same New Communities, Inc.(NCI) identified in the current issue? Shirley Sherrod could have included this chapter of her history in the same confession speech. Justice and integrity require at least as much accountability from Mrs. Sherrod to the poor black farm workers of NCI as to the white farmers she came to befriend. This lack of full disclosure of the whole truth is a “sin of omission” that trivializes the suffering of poor black farm workers and exacerbates the offenses of NCI.

Shirley Sherrod was New Communities Inc. store manager during the 1970s. As such, Mrs. Sherrod was a key member of the NCI administrative team, which exploited and abused the workforce in the field. The 6,000 acre New Communities Inc. in Lee County promoted itself during the latter part of the 1960s and throughout the 70s as a land trust committed to improving the lives of the rural black poor. Underneath this facade, the young and old worked long hours with few breaks, the pay averaged sixty-seven cents an hour, fieldwork behind equipment spraying pesticides was commonplace and workers expressing dissatisfaction were fired without recourse.

The unfortunate story of Mrs. Annie Hawkins and her family in particular is instructive. Persuaded by NCI that their lot would be improved, the Hawkins family stole away from the Georgia plantation that they had called home. After suffering abuse meted out to them and others at NCI, Mrs. Hawkins sadly stated that, “We stole away from one plantation, but just ended up on another.” For her courageous role in demonstrations against the Sherrods and NCI management, Annie Hawkins and her family were fired and kicked out of the house that they were promised. My last encounter with an ailing Mrs. Hawkins took place several years ago in a nursing home where she resided.

Worker protest at New Communities eventually garnered some assistance from the United Farm Workers Union in nearby Florida in the person of one of its most formidable organizers, black State Director, the late Mack Lyons. The September 28, 1974 UFW newspaper El Malcriado, page two, reported on the worker’s strike (“Children Farm Workers Strike Black Co-op” www.farmworkermovement.org/ufwarchives) and the UFW stepped in to protect black farm workers from exploitation by NCI. Fearful of both UFW efforts to unionize NCI’s labor force and scrutiny by the Georgia State Wage and Hour Division, the Sherrods and NCI management hastily issued checks in varying amounts to strikers to makeup ostensibly for minimum wage differentials. It is bitter irony that the Sherrods have succeeded in being awarded $300,000 following a discrimination lawsuit, while Mrs. Hawkins and other impoverished NCI black laborers whom NCI exploited were never adequately compensated for their “pain and suffering”.

While it is true that loan discrimination and relentless creditors can be cited for the eventual demise of New Communities Inc. in 1985, NCI’s unfair labor practices and poor leadership, were equally, if not more, to blame. Ask Shirley Sherrod about this part of her history. I know this story well, for I was one of those workers at NCI.

Repealing the Individual Mandate on the Health Care Bill

The Republican Motion to Recommit H.R. 5486, the Small Business Jobs Tax Relief Act, would repeal the unconstitutional individual mandate included in the Democrats’ new Health Care law.

The Democrats’ recently enacted government take-over of Health Care requires every American to purchase health insurance or pay a new tax if they don’t purchase an “acceptable” form of coverage.

CBO estimates that by 2016, the individual mandate tax penalty will hit the middle- and low-income Americans the hardest with roughly 75% of Americans who pay this tax having household incomes below 500% of the Federal Poverty Level. Because of this, repealing the mandate will reduce the deficit - if individuals are not forced to buy insurance, then they will also not be forced to accept taxpayer-funded subsidies to help them afford the mandated insurance. (The MTR would reduce the deficit by $252 billion over the 2010-2020 timeframe)

Because the individual mandate is enforced by a tax penalty, the IRS will have to hire additional Federal employees to implement the law. Repealing the mandate thus reduces the thousands of IRS employees expected to be hired to enforce the new health care law (and reduces the Federal payroll).

This MTR is a vote for personal choice and deficit reduction. As Americans, we expect the right to choose what we purchase – we don’t need Washington telling us what to buy. With the debt now topping $13 Trillion, every opportunity to reduce the deficit and stop spending must be taken seriously.

Liberal Lies About National Health Care: First In a Series

(1) National health care will punish the insurance companies.

You want to punish insurance companies? Make them compete.

As Adam Smith observed, whenever two businessmen meet, "the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices." That's why we need a third, fourth and 45th competing insurance company that will undercut them by offering better service at a lower price.

Tiny little France and Germany have more competition among health insurers than the U.S. does right now. Amazingly, both of these socialist countries have less state regulation of health insurance than we do, and you can buy health insurance across regional lines -- unlike in the U.S., where a federal law allows states to ban interstate commerce in health insurance.

U.S. health insurance companies are often imperious, unresponsive consumer hellholes because they're a partial monopoly, protected from competition by government regulation. In some states, one big insurer will control 80 percent of the market. (Guess which party these big insurance companies favor? Big companies love big government.)

Liberals think they can improve the problem of a partial monopoly by turning it into a total monopoly. That's what single-payer health care is: "Single payer" means "single provider."

It's the famous liberal two-step: First screw something up, then claim that it's screwed up because there's not enough government oversight (it's the free market run wild!), and then step in and really screw it up in the name of "reform."

You could fix 90 percent of the problems with health insurance by ending the federal law allowing states to ban health insurance sales across state lines. But when John McCain called for ending the ban during the 2008 presidential campaign, he was attacked by Joe Biden -- another illustration of the ironclad Ann Coulter rule that the worst Republicans are still better than allegedly "conservative" Democrats.

(2) National health care will "increase competition and keep insurance companies honest" -- as President Barack Obama has said.

Government-provided health care isn't a competitor; it's a monopoly product paid for by the taxpayer. Consumers may be able to "choose" whether they take the service -- at least at first -- but every single one of us will be forced to buy it, under penalty of prison for tax evasion. It's like a new cable plan with a "yes" box, but no "no" box.

Obama himself compared national health care to the post office -- immediately conjuring images of a highly efficient and consumer-friendly work force -- which, like so many consumer-friendly shops, is closed by 2 p.m. on Saturdays, all Sundays and every conceivable holiday.

But what most people don't know -- including the president, apparently -- with certain narrow exceptions, competing with the post office is prohibited by law.

Expect the same with national health care. Liberals won't stop until they have total control. How else will they get you to pay for their sex-change operations?

(3) Insurance companies are denying legitimate claims because they are "villains."

Obama denounced the insurance companies in last Sunday's New York Times, saying: "A man lost his health coverage in the middle of chemotherapy because the insurance company discovered that he had gallstones, which he hadn't known about when he applied for his policy. Because his treatment was delayed, he died."

Well, yeah. That and the cancer.

Assuming this is true -- which would distinguish it from every other story told by Democrats pushing national health care -- in a free market, such an insurance company couldn't stay in business. Other insurance companies would scream from the rooftops about their competitor's shoddy business practices, and customers would leave in droves.

If only customers had a choice! But we don't because of government regulation of health insurance.

Speaking of which, maybe if Mr. Gallstone's insurance company weren't required by law to cover early childhood development programs and sex-change operations, it wouldn't be forced to cut corners in the few areas not regulated by the government, such as cancer treatments for patients with gallstones.

(4) National health care will give Americans "basic consumer protections that will finally hold insurance companies accountable" -- as Barack Obama claimed in his op/ed in the Times.

You want to protect consumers? Do it the same way we protect consumers of dry cleaning, hamburgers and electricians: Give them the power to tell their insurance companies, "I'm taking my business elsewhere."

(5) Government intervention is the only way to provide coverage for pre-existing conditions.

The only reason most "pre-existing" conditions aren't already covered is because of government regulations that shrink the insurance market to a microscopic size, which leads to fewer options in health insurance and a lot more uninsured people than would exist in a free market.

The free market has produced a dizzying array of insurance products in areas other than health. (Ironically, array-associated dizziness is not covered by most health plans.) Even insurance companies have "reinsurance" policies to cover catastrophic events occurring on the properties they insure, such as nuclear accidents, earthquakes and Michael Moore dropping in for a visit and breaking the couch.

If we had a free market in health insurance, it would be inexpensive and easy to buy insurance for "pre-existing" conditions before they exist, for example, insurance on unborn -- unconceived -- children and health insurance even when you don't have a job. The vast majority of "pre-existing" conditions that currently exist in a cramped, limited, heavily regulated insurance market would be "covered" conditions under a free market in health insurance.
