If you are so sure that ' Palestine , the country, goes back through most of recorded history,' I expect you to be able to answer a few basic questions about that country of Palestine :

1. When was it founded and by whom?

2. What were its borders?

3. What was its capital?

4. What were its major cities or name one major city?

5. What constituted the basis of its economy?

6. What was its form of government?

7. Can you name at least one Palestinian leader before Arafat?

8. Was Palestine ever recognized by a country whose existence, at that time or now, leaves no room for interpretation?

9. What was the language of the country of Palestine?

10. What was the prevalent religion of the country of Palestine?

11. What was the name of its currency? Choose any date in history and tell what was the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian monetary unit against the US dollar, German mark, GB pound, Japanese yen, or Chinese yuan on that date.

12. And, finally, since there is no such country today, what caused its demise and when did it occur?

You are lamenting the 'low sinking' of a 'once proud' nation. Please tell me, when exactly was that 'nation' proud and what was it so proud of?

And here is the least sarcastic question of all: If the people you mistakenly call 'Palestinians' are anything but generic Arabs collected from all over -- or thrown out of -- the Arab world, if they really have a genuine ethnic identity that gives them right for self-determination, why did they never try to become independent until Arabs suffered their devastating defeat in the Six Day War.

I hope you avoid the temptation to trace the modern day 'Palestinians' to the Biblical Philistines: substituting etymology for history won't work here.

The truth should be obvious to everyone who wants to know it. Arab countries have never abandoned the dream of destroying Israel ; they still cherish it today. Having time and again failed to achieve their evil goal with military means, they decided to fight Israel by proxy. For that purpose, they created a terrorist organization, cynically called it 'the Palestinian people' and installed it in Gaza , Judea, and Samaria. How else can you explain the refusal by Jordan and Egypt to unconditionally accept back the 'West Bank' and Gaza, respectively?

The fact is, Arabs populating Gaza , Judea, and Samaria have much less claim to nationhood than that Indian tribe that successfully emerged in Connecticut with the purpose of starting a tax-exempt casino: at least that tribe had a constructive goal that motivated them. The so-called 'Palestinians' have only one?motivation: the destruction of Israel , and in?my book that is not sufficient to consider them a nation' -- or anything else except what they really are: a terrorist organization that will one day be dismantled

In fact, there is only one way to achieve peace in the Middle East . Arab countries must acknowledge and accept their defeat in their war against Israel and, as the losing side should, pay Israel reparations for the more than 50 years of devastation they have visited on it. The most appropriate form of such reparations would be the removal of their terrorist organization from the land of Israel and accepting Israel 's ancient sovereignty over Gaza , Judea, and Samaria .

That will mark the end of the Palestinian people. What are you saying again was its beginning?

I voted democrat because I think it is better to pay billions for their oil to people who hate us but not to drill for our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, spotted owl, gopher of fish.

Ted Cruz offered an "apology" to New Yorkers offended by his criticism of "New York values," but used the apology to slam the vile "liberal politicians" in office. We must recognize the damage done by these despicable Liberals. Those who say Liberals can still have values are lying to themselves. How can you have and decent values if you re-elect a Marxist, you support ripping live babies into pieces, you support trashing our Veterans and Police Officers, you support funding terrorism through Iran. Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job. Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One was to do the studies and one was to write the reports. Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?"

So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people. Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back." So they laid-off the night watchman.

If George W. Bush had misspelled the word "advice" and mispronounced the word "corps," mistaking it for a dead body, would you have wondered about this man's ability to articulate English and represent his country?

If George W. Bush had burned nine thousand gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush's administration had approved of Air Force One flying low and then sending in a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan, thus causing widespread panic, would you have wondered at the lack of sensitivity displayed by the Commander-in-Chief?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest, with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans during Katrina, would you wonder if this lack of assistance had racial overtones? Clearly you would have been incensed by the gross incompetence -- wouldn't you?

If George W. Bush had created the positions of 32 czars who report directly to him, bypassing approval by the House and Senate, would you have begun to wonder if American democracy was being trampled?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though the president has no constitutional authority to do so, would you have worried about the moorings of this country and the abuse of power?

If George W. Bush had ignored outright voting rights violations and did not recommend that the Department of Justice render justice, would you begin to wonder if the man was the president of all the people or just some of the people?

So what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? He's done all this in fifteen months -- and we still have another two years and nine months to go.

Does having an Ivy League education automatically qualify you to be better than everyone else? There's nothing wrong with an Ivy League education, but there's nothing wrong without one either. One thing I've noticed, and your favorite son Obama fits into this category, is that many with Ivy League educations are lacking in that undefinable trait called "common sense", which cannot be taught in any "elitist" college or university. Look at many of our present and former politicians who have come up short on having "common sense", a couple of examples are former Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, of Vietnam War fame, and, of course, the guru of global warming, Al Gore.

Your diatribe against Christine O'Donnell is not only "sexist" it is truly "elitist" and shows your readers that you like to practice discrimination as long as it is not about race.

Who says Obama is not doing a good job on the economy? Unfortunately, he is wrecking the economy – not helping it.
Figures released today show that first-time weekly jobless claims rose to 462,000 last week from an upwardly revised previous figure of 449,000. Economists expected a total of 450,000 initial claims. But that’s not all.
The trade deficit soared 8.8% to $46.3 billion in August. That's much higher than estimates pegging a decline to $40.8 billion from July's $42.8 billion. Exports edged up 0.2% in August, but a 2.1% jump in imports negated that small gain.

Since Obama took office, our economy has shed more than 4 million jobs and with the latest figure the job losses are growing. It currently stands at 9.6% — higher than it was in June 2009, when, according to Obama and Biden, the "recovery" began. Do you recall all the promises Obama made when he said he needed all the stimulus money to keep unemployment that was then at 7.7% from going to 8%.

But let’s look at the “positive side.” Under the anointed one’s leadership we have spent $700 billion in bailouts and more than $862 billion in “stimulus bills” that were in reality sops to labor unions. In addition, the Fed has printed more than $1.4 trillion in money to finance this reckless spending. Our deficit in the last two years has grown to $2.9 trillion – it is now more than 10.3% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). So, we are now number one but unfortunately it is with the largest deficit ratio of any of the other G-20 richest nations. Under Obama, Pelosi, and Reid our reckless spending continues. Last year federal debt amounted to $7.5 trillion – 53% of our total GDP. By 2020 unless this spending is abated the debt will climb to $20 trillion – 90% of GDP. The Democratic appointed Congressional Budget calls this spending in its own words “unsustainable.” And yet Obama and his friends want to spend even more on other stimulus bills! But, of course, Obama can’t accept responsibility for his programs and the spending they cost us. No, it’s all the fault of the Bush tax cuts that took place in 2001 and 2003 – years before these record deficits took place.

It is readily apparent that Obama is incapable of accepting responsibility for his actions and programs. He is like a captain of sinking ship who tells the passengers to enjoy the entertainment (special appearances by Hollywood celebrities) rather than doing something to plug the hole in the sinking ship.

Yes, all of that spent money sure worked. After spending all of this money we now have an unemployment rate of 9.6% - and this figure does not take into account all of those people who have given up looking for jobs.

Dear Sir:

As a veteran I am at a loss to understand how your organization could endorse the likes of Alan Grayson and Ron Klein. Have you not heard what these idiots have said and done? Both have done nothing to support our troops – but rather with their support of the Obama agenda have endangered their lives.

These two individuals have not supported the military in any way, shape, or form. In my opinion your organization is a disgrace to the uniform and the flag and for all that it stands for. To support any candidate like Grayson or Klein is beyond comprehension.

Previously I have supported VFW events and causes but based on your latest actions all of my contributions and support will go to worthy organizations and not organizations who support leftist candidates like Grayson and Klein.

Independent's dilemma

I'm not party registered and as an independent, I face a dilemma.
If I detect a Democrat who may mirror some of my values, I will not be able to vote for him or her, because it will actually be giving my vote to Nancy Pelosi or
Harry Reed, and that is unacceptable.
Because we are a two party nation, Pelosi and Reed had to hang their hat on one of them in order to be in the game. They have polluted the Democratic party and
strong-arm anyone who is not on the same page of their agenda, forcing them to ignore their conscience or become Persona Non Grata.
I'm not concerned with the 2012 election, because the Obama disaster will be rectified. There is two years for the stragglers to catch up and participate in the Catharsis.

Yes, those peace loving Muslims are at it again.

Sakineh Mohammad Ashtiani, 43, was convicted of "adultery while being married" and given the death penalty after a trial over her husband's murder in 2006. Her penalty was to be stoned to death, the normal penalty for such an offense in Muslim countries. The London Times carried an article about the penalty and the article showed a woman, who later turned out NOT to be Ashtiani, who appeared without her head being covered. As you know in “civilized” Muslim countries such a horrendous crime must be punished and Nevertheless, Ashtiani was sentenced to being whipped 99 times.

There is concern that in addition Ashtiani will be hanged.

There is no an international outcry about this matter but, no doubt, Iran will not waiver.

However, I hear nothing from Mayor Bloomberg and other supporters of the Ground Zero Mosque since, I assume, they feel this is justified under the banner of freedom of religion. Perhaps the Ground Zero Mosque can set aside an area where adulteresses can be stoned under Sharia law. I am certain the community board and liberal Democrats would support such a plan. After all, Muslims should be able to practice their peaceful religion.
