Where are the Adults?

The headline on the front page of the 7-18-2011 edition of the SunSentinel declared, "Casey Anthony's location unknown". Is this really headline news? Is this what we should be concerned about? Seriously?

I ask you, Where are the adults?

We seem to be so preoccupied with meaningless drivel such as this sordid case and so much of what passes for entertainment or news, that it brings into question whether there are any serious adults left in this country?

The first definition of 'adult', according to my copy of the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language is: "One who has attained maturity or legal age". Reading the newspapers, watching the 'news' on the tube and listening for serious or meaningful conversations at gatherings in contemporary American society, leads me to this conclusion: Apparently, most who have attained 'maturity or legal age', accept the truths as presented by the Harry Potter films and those presented in The Holy Bible as equally authoritative gospel.

Seeking more comfort from my dictionary, I proceeded to the second definition of, 'adult'. Here it is, verbatim:
"A fully grown, mature organism, such as an insect that has completed its final stage of metamorphosis."
Ah, that's more like it.

The final definition of, 'adult' simply reads: "to grow up". Now, why in hell didn't they say that in the first place?
Let me shout that out to all mature, legal age Americans, "GROW UP!" Can you hear me, now?
